Over nearly two decades, the NSRF has been involved in research addressing evaluations of intervention and prevention programmes relating to self-harm, suicide and mental health.
This research includes evaluations of interventions and activities commissioned by the HSE Reach Out and Connecting for Life Strategies, as well as externally funded systematic evaluations and randomised controlled trials, such as:
- Saving and Empowering Young Lives in Europe (SEYLE, EU funded)
- Optimising Suicide Prevention and its Implementation (OSPI-Europe, EU funded)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT, HSE NOSP funded)
- Self-Harm Assessment and Management for General Hospitals (SAMAGH, HRB funded)
- Providing Improved care for Self-harm: a mixed-methods study of intervention, economic and implementation outcomes from a national clinical programme (PRISM, HRB funded)
- Self-Harm and Suicide Awareness (SHARE, HRB funded)
- Open Dialogue (HSE funded)
- Mental Health Promotion in Occupational Settings (MENTUPP, EU funded)
In addition, the WHO Collaborating Centre has been commissioned to provide guidance to countries in evaluating national suicide prevention programmes over the next four years. The extensive track record of published reports and peer-reviewed research into programme evaluation as well as national and international strategic priorities (HSE NOSP, EU, WHO) underlines the importance of this research cluster.
