Dr Elaine McMahon

Research Fellow in Youth Mental Health

Elaine is a Research Fellow in youth mental health at the School of Public Health, UCC and the National Suicide Research Foundation, Cork. Her current work is funded by the Health Research Board as part of the Applying Research into Policy and Practice (ARPP) programme, for which she was awarded funding in 2018.

Elaine is a graduate of University College Cork and in 2012 she completed her PhD at the School of Public Health, UCC. She has published widely in high-impact journals on a range of mental-health related topics. Her current multi-method research programme involves inter-disciplinary and international collaboration and examines the iceberg of self-harm and suicide in young people, with the aim of identifying predictors of onset, escalation and premature mortality.
