Project Overview

Irish Traveller women have higher rates of self-harm and suicide-related ideation, compared to White Irish women (3.04 higher rates for suicide-related ideation and 3.85 higher rates for self-harm).

This research focuses on Irish Traveller women attending Emergency Departments (EDs) with thoughts of suicide or thoughts of self-harm.

The project is funded by the Department of Health, under the Women’s Health Fund Mental Health Initiatives.

Project Aims

The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of Traveller women reaching Irish EDs for thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
